A Step By Step Process Of Civil Trial For Injury In Pennsylvania

May 5, 2020 admin

Civil Trial

Personal injuries can happen every day. If you or your loved one has sustained an injury due to someone else’s negligence, don’t delay in filing a personal injury claim to receive the maximum possible compensation for your pain and suffering. It is advisable to find and hire an experienced law firm that claims to provide the appropriate settlement for your damages.

A winning claim requires strong evidence. Civil trials follow a strict process of events while trying to reach a verdict. A civil lawsuit process includes the rules and regulations by which courts conduct civil trials. When your case is strong, filing a claim may allow the insurance company to provide the appropriate settlement for your pain and suffering.

Civil Trial Process From Start To Finish

The order of events in the civil trial procedure includes:

  • Choosing A Jury
  • Opening Statements
  • Closing Arguments
  • Jury Instruction
  • Jury Deliberation and Verdict

Step 1- Choosing A Jury

The first step in any civil trial process is to select a jury, While choosing a jury, the judge will question potential jurors regarding the particular case. The judge can excuse jurors at this stage based on their responses to questions.

Step 2- Opening Statements

After choosing the jury, the first “dialogue” in a civil trial comes in the form of two statements- one from the victim’s lawyer, and the second one from the defendant’s lawyer.

Step 3- Closing Arguments

Like the opening statement, the closing argument offers the victim and the defendant in a personal injury lawsuit. At this stage, the jury is addressed before deliberations.

Step 4- Jury Instruction

After closing arguments, the next step is jury instruction. At this stage, the judge gives the jury the set of legal standards. This will decide whether the defendant should be responsible for the victim’s damage.

Step 5- Jury Deliberation and Verdict

Once the instruction is received from the judge, the jurors consider the case through deliberation. This process allows the jury to discuss the case. Once the jury reaches a decision, they inform the judge, and the judge announces the final decision in court.
